Don’t forget the fascinating Island of Tangier, where the community has been so isolated that they continue to speak a local dialect that has changed little since the first colonialists arrived from England.

Made famous by Marguerite Henry’s book, Misty of Chincoteague, this island still has an authentic pony farm where they raise the animals made famous by this beautiful story. Similar to Tangier, there is little commercialization on the island, especially by the beaches.
